Citizens for Responsible Government Goals for 2007

The CRG Mission statement: Citizens for Responsible Government is dedicated to the principles of peace, economic, social, and political justice working through our political processes in a spirit of nonviolence. We are deeply committed to responsible stewardship of planet Earth and all its inhabitants for this and future generations.
The CRG in agreement with our mission statement and in response to the concerns of our members and local citizens, herein state our Goals for 2007. In our dedication to principles of peace, justice and responsible stewardship of Earth and our democracy, we will pursue the following Goals:

CRG GOALS

Global Warming and Environmental Protection have finally made the news! CRG has been at the forefront in bringing attention locally to these issues for a long time. As our current highest priority, we will push for stronger standards and adequate responses on these issues. Climate change will affect us all; we will need to work together to deal with the coming and necessary transformation within our society and economy. This is a global issue. We will need to be true global citizens and responsible stewards of the planet.

The Pursuit of Lasting Peace must be accomplished on at least two fronts. The war and occupation in Iraq has helped us focus on the external manifestation of our warring nature, and most Americans have rejected that approach to conflict resolution. The other front happens on a personal level where we seek personal peace within ourselves and with our family and neighbors. CRG has, from its inception, tried to promote Peace at every level. We will continue that tradition in 2007. Ending the unnecessary war and occupation in Iraq will be the short term goal. Ending violent resolution of conflict at any level will be the long term goal.

Media Reform has been an area of great concern for CRG and its members for many years. The necessity of holding local media outlets to higher standards of journalism has never been greater. We continue to see the “dumbing down” of America by corporate media. Our democracy depends on an accurately informed citizenry. Supporting alternate media sources like the Peoples Press, Global Perspectives and Pacifica’s Democracy Now! allows our community to hear diverse views and more comprehensive news. CRG will continue to resist the control of information and will bring alternate sources of information to as many people as possible.

Community Building through outreach, inclusivity, and coalitions of like-minded people and organizations that wish to work in cooperation has been very successful. We will continue to embrace social interaction and partnerships that facilitate ways to consolidate our strengths and effectiveness based on common values and a respect for peace, freedom and democracy. We will work on every level to empower all people for the greater good.

Community Education is a big part of all we do. Only an informed people can make democracy work. The accomplishment of all of our goals depends on an informed and participating citizenry and a representative government. We will continue to educate on important issues and bring them to the attention of local citizens and government officials through, public forums, guest speakers, documentary screenings, workshops, classes, retreats, lobbying and rallies.

Globalization and Privatization are the driving forces that we perceive as major factors in our deteriorating economic and social conditions. They extend the interests of international corporations and banking around the world through the influences of the WTO, World Bank, International Monetary fund and other agencies. We will continue to question the effects this is having on economies, the sovereignty of nations, the environment and indigenous cultures worldwide. We will explore alternatives and actions that will serve to restore local culture, economies and democracy.

Restoration of Democracy and Governmental Reform is a new goal that has birthed out of the concern of our members for the deterioration of civil and human rights and the corruption now rampant in our government. From war-profiteering to lack of Congressional oversight and executive branch over reaches, this is a goal that will be central to our efforts this year. The opportunity presents itself for reform. CRG will respond by actively pursuing this goal.

Protection of Social Programs has become of great concern to educators, workers, the elderly and the poor as the state and national governments continue to cut funding for long standing programs. This erosion of the social fabric of America will have far-reaching effects for all Americans. We will attempt to address these issues in a timely way by bringing them to the attention of this group and the community.
